YASSP researchers leverage their expertise to write digestible and meaningful white papers and reports to support learnings for stakeholders across the land management sphere and influence conversations on land management practices with cutting-edge research. View our works below.
Agricultural Soil Carbon: A Call for Improved Evidence of Climate Mitigation (2025)
YASSP researchers and partners at Environmental Defense Fund make the case that project-scale empirical data are required to test, support and advance the ability of such scaling approaches to estimate real emission reductions and removals. The authors emphasize that, contrary to arguments that have led to reliance on process-based biogeochemical models for carbon accounting, empirical measure-and-remeasure projects appear scientifically feasible at regional agricultural scales with current best practices for soil sampling and carbon analysis. Roads to Removal: Options for Carbon Dioxide Removals in the United States (2024)
The Roads to Removal (R2R) report is a national collaborative effort by more than 68 scientists, and 13 institutions that examines regionally specific opportunities to address the pressing issue of climate change and the urgent need to remove carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere and store it at the gigaton scale. YASSP led the research and writing for Chapter 2: Forest Management for Carbon Removal and Storage.
The Forest Dialogue Background Papers
The Forest Dialogue is a platform and process for multi-stakeholder discussion and collaboration on the most pressing local and global issues facing forest and people. YASSP collaborated with The Forest Dialogue to create the following background reports.
-
Bioenergy from Forests (2024)
-
Restoration Scoping Dialogue (2023)
