Ethan’s research focuses on uniting economics and ecology to address planetary challenges. His work spans natural capital accounting and valuation, informing multi-objective land use decisions, and the development of credible evidence for environmental policymaking. Ethan frequently collaborates with other natural and social scientists, land managers, and decision makers to advance his research, in tandem with US, UK, and global governmental and non-profit organizations. He is a co-editor of Environmental and Resource Economics and a member of the Technical Panel of Experts for the Global Ocean Accounts Partnership.
Prior to returning to YSE, Ethan was a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of Exeter and a member of the Land, Environment, Economics and Policy (LEEP) Institute. Given the interdisciplinary nature of his work, Ethan’s research has appeared in a wide range of outlets including PNAS, Nature Sustainability, JAERE, JEEM, Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment, OneEarth, and Phil. Trans. B. Ethan is thrilled to return to the Yale School of the Environment where he completed his PhD in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics.
